About Me
Hi, I’m Kevin — a Brisbane-based newborn photographer and founder of SouthernBase Photography (STB). I’ve been photographing babies and families since 2011, and my work focuses on creating calm, safe and beautifully crafted newborn sessions.
My journey began when I photographed my own daughter, which sparked my passion for newborn photography. Since then, I’ve specialised in working with babies under 14 days old, and I’ve been honoured with multiple international awards (AsiaWAP 2018–2022).
At my Aspley studio, every session is baby-led, gentle and safety-focused. As an educator, I teach practical techniques that photographers can apply immediately — from posing and lighting to workflow and client communication.
Whether I’m photographing a newborn or guiding students in a workshop, my goal is simple:
to create meaningful images with care and professionalism.
What This Workshop Is About
This two-day workshop is designed for photographers who want to confidently photograph newborns in a safe, calm and professional way. Whether you’re a beginner, a family/maternity photographer adding newborn sessions, or someone who struggles with posing, lighting or workflow — this workshop gives you the practical skills you can apply immediately.
You’ll learn a complete, real-world newborn photography process from an award-winning Brisbane photographer, with hands-on practice using real babies and clear guidance in a small, supportive group.

FAQ
Can I join without any experience?
Absolutely — as long as you have a genuine interest in newborn photography and a basic understanding of how to use your camera.
This course is designed for beginners who want hands-on experience and practical guidance, especially if you’re nervous about posing or working with real babies.
Will we photograph real babies?
Yes — we will work with real newborns during the workshop.
You’ll learn by observing live posing, soothing, and wrapping demonstrations, then take your own photos once the setup is ready.
For safety reasons, baby handling is done by the instructor only — your job is to watch closely, ask questions, and shoot the final setup with guidance.
Can I bring my own camera?
Yes — you’re welcome to bring your camera.
During the newborn posing section, you’ll have the chance to capture the setups we create.
However, for the family portrait portion, I’ll be using studio lighting with a synced trigger, which only works with my camera.
So while you can bring your gear, it’s not required, and won’t be used for all parts of the workshop.
How many students per class?
This is a small-group workshop with a maximum of 10 students.
You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions and get personal guidance throughout the session.
